Sculpture in the Springtime 2012
Sculpture Classes for Spring 2012

For elementary children : As the weather is becoming warmer, it is the best time to be outdoors making sculptures in the yard. Children will learn about three dimensional language, the scale of objects and how to wrangle materials. Join me for this hands-on, energetic class, where we will be working in clay, concrete and wire. We will be learning techniques of carving, building and modeling. These classes will take place in the sculpture yard on Plain Street, and there will be no snack provided, although children are welcome to bring their own.

Session 2: The Meaning of Objects
Five Sculpture Classes, Wednesday May 2, May 9, May 16, May 23, May 30
4:15 pm - 5:30
The space around us is defined by objects and we have an innate understanding of their function and meaning. We are awed by tall buildings, we can recognize when some thing is precariously balanced and we are aware of our own size in relationship to the world around us. The refined sense of this visual physical language is the realm of the sculptors, architects and designers.
This is a hands-on sculpture class with a maximum of 5 students, working outdoors with concrete, wire and clay. We will be learning techniques of carving and the use of armature to create movement and gesture in pieces that are modeled. We will also be spending some time in the Abovo studio looking at and discussing projected images of contemporary sculpture. I hope that students will become more aware of sculpture in their environment and gain skills for thinking and talking about their own three dimensional work.
