Session 2:
The Meaning of Objects
Five Sculpture Classes, Wednesday May 2, May 9, May 16, May 23, May 30
4:15 pm - 5:30
We have an innate understanding of objects that begins form the time we first open our eyes. Things are amazing if they are tall, or tippy or tiny, or many, or beautiful, or dangerous. How is it that we know this?
This class is a hands-on sculpture session, involving work in concret wire and wood. We will be bringing to mind what we already know about objects and looking for our own preferences about "things". We will put this to use in making sculptures that involve both carving and building. Our work space will be in the sculpture yard at 214 North Plainb Street, where there is a large canopy, sand beds and a cement mixer. Students should come ready to get dirty, and have their own pair of work gloves that fit them.
