Drawings are a balance between mark making and image. My drawings come from my visual memory as well as from the media. Through these images I observe people and I try to understand them.
I worked for many years as an art therapist with Autistic children in New York. I would at times be so puzzled by someone. Many of my clients did not have language. They only had action and attraction. I would draw their image at home to think about them. I was looking for insight into these people. Often, I found that the drawings would reveal some central truth about someone that I had overlooked.
Drawings are intuitive, tapping into what we know innately, a shift away from a linear construct to a broader consideration.
